Is Kenya a Cursed Nation? Time and again, state appointments have given a picture of a country that would rather reward mediocrity, crime and irrelevance at the expense of rewarding stellar performances and integrity.

Many are the times that we have seen corruption suspects bag mega government appointments at the expense of qualified Kenyans with a clean record.

This has led to recycling of the usual old faces in Key Government parastatals meaning that young Kenyans like the Youth with brilliant and Visionary minds are always left to wallow in Unemployment.

S who exactly is to be blamed in the midst of all this Mediocrity rewarding system?

Well, DPP Noordin Haji has time and again protested the appointment of crime suspects. He has also time and again called for the formulation of legal mechanism through parliament that will see state officials implicated in various criminal activities ranging from corruption to murder and other capital offences step aside pending investigations.

His efforts have seemingly not bore any fruits.

As the DPP, DCI and other concerned agencies try to push for a clean Public Service, the government seem to be jeopardizing their efforts.

Just over the weekend, a suspect in the alleged looting of Sh2 billion from the Migori county coffers was among individuals awarded plum state appointments.

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru  appointed Jared Kwaga to the board of Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.

Kwaga is a close associate of Migori Governor Okoth Obado. His assets were frozen by the High Court after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission filed a Sh1.9 billion recovery suit against him and six relatives. They include his mother and wife.

The EACC says Kwaga and his relatives registered several companies to fraudulently acquire public funds through unmerited high-value tenders — some fictitious.

The agency in court papers says Kwaga, in a bid to conceal funds corruptly acquired through fictitious tenders, transferred Sh55,224,977 to offshore accounts in China and Hong Kong.

Kenyans have seemingly been annoyed by Kwaga’s appointment with many calling for it’s revocation. Kwaga’s appointment will surely derail the war against corruption and has infact shown Kenya as a Country that rewards Mediocrity.
