Scores seriously injured following Tahmeed Bus accident

Even after the NTSA embarked to Michuki rules crackdown to curb number of road accidents,25 people  sustained serious injuries in a road accident along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

The accident occurred in areas of Miasenyi, Voi Sub County, Taita-Taveta County in the early hours of the morning at around 5am.

A Tahmeed Bus that was travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa was the primary vehicle involved in the accident.

Reports indicate that the bus skidded and overturned leading to critical injuries on the passengers.

Voi traffic Base Commander Michael Muriithi confirmed the incident stating, “The bus was overlapping another vehicle travelling in the same direction and in the process, the driver lost control. The bus rolled several times injuring 25 passengers.”

The County Police Commandant Halima Abdi indicated that the injured victims were undergoing treatment at the Voi County Referral Hospital as well as the St Joseph’s Shelter of Hope hospitals.

The police boss, however, indicated that two off the accident victims had their hands amputated.

The incident brings to 34 the number of people who have been injured in road accidents on the route for the past week.

Nine General Service Unit (GSU) officers attached to Mombasa’s State House were also injured in a recent accident at Ndii in Voi town.

Both areas of Miasenyi and Ndii are regarded as major black spots in Kenya.
