One thing Unai Emery must do to increase Arsenal’s summer transfer budget

Unai Emery is in desperate need of new recruits at Arsenal, but will only have the mealy sum of £40million to spend in the summer transfer window.

Emery spent around £70million in his first summer in charge of the Emirates club, bringing in the likes of £30million man Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria and free transfer Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.

This January he was handed barely any funds, and was forced to dip into the loan market to bring in Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez on a temporary basis.

This summer is set to be equally testing for the Spaniard, who is tasked with securing Champions League football for the Gunners but hasn’t been given adequate financial backing in which to do so.

There is one thing Emery may look to do to increase Arsenal’s transfer funds.

Mesut Ozil is the club’s best-paid player and earns a staggering £350,000-a-week in wages.

But despite this huge amount, Ozil isn’t a first team starter under Emery, and has been struggling to even get a game for Arsenal over the past few months.

Should Emery find a way to move the German on in the summer then he will free up extra funds for new players.

Aaron Ramsey leaving the club for Juventus will also help relieve pressure on the Gunners’ wage bill, which has been left to spiral out of control.
