Mombasa man forced to chew raw pepper for stealing shoes
Despite it’s sharp pungent taste, pepper has often been used as an ingredient in meals and is one of the major sources of vitamin C that boosts eye health. A section of residents of Mombasa have now redefined the use of the substance and extended it further as a punishment tool.

In a viral undated video circulating on social media, a man who is accused of stealing shoes was forced to eat raw pepper as a punishment. Those who caught the man in the act forced him to confess to stealing and asked him to vow he will never steal again as he struggled to finish up the raw peppers.

“I am a thief and I usually steal shoes, I was sent by Felix who works at the ferry. Some of the shoes we steal he sells them at the ferry and others in Changamwe,” reiterated the thief under instructions from his captors. However, it is not the first case of such a punishment given another incident where a thief was given to choose between being beaten and eating pepper.

He chose to eat a whole bowl of pepper as his captors watched him.
