Mt Kenya ‘spanner’ to quit village jobs , reveals running mate in stormy 2022 presidential race

Speaking on Hot 96 breakfast show, Kuria expressed optimism that he would win in a contest against William Ruto, saying if successful, he would offer the now deputy president a post in his government.

The vocal MP stated that his resolve to vie for the presidency is part of his determination to help solve challenges facing Kenyans, including tribalism.

Kuria has vowed to ensure Kenyans get efficient service delivery especially on projects top do with development and infrastructure.

“Campaign for me. My symbol will be a spanner. I just want to speak my mind. If I have opposed you and you are from another tribe it is not because you are from a different area,” Kuria was quoted in a previous event.

He stated that the issues affecting Kenyan are far reaching and went beyond tribe or social status.

His sentiments come a week after days of speculation that he was planning to ditch the Jubilee party for the Democratic Party (DP) following a tell-tale post he made on social media.

Kuria had posted a flag of the DP party on his social media with a claim that the party would be the choice of Mt Kenya leaders.

Although he has not made a formal application to join the party – which would inadvertently see him lose the Gatundu seat- the party leadership said Kuria is free to join the outfit ahead of 2022.

The Nation previously reported that business magnate Jimmi Wanjigi, Maina Kamanda, Peter Kenneth and Senator Kembi Gitura are some of the top men who have expressed interest in being part of the political outfit.

Despite Kuria’s avowed interest in a presidential ticket, the leadership through its National Chairman Esau Kioni says he will have to square it out with other like-minded politicians in the party who will be interested in flying the party’s flag.

So far, Kuria has ruled out the possibility running for a gubernatorial seat, claiming that he would not go back to doing ‘village jobs’.

In the event that he runs for the top seat, the outspoken MP says that he will consider either DP Ruto, Raila Odinga or Kivutha Kibwana as possible running mates.

In October of 2018, during an interview with Capital FM, Kuria had said he would be supporting himself for the presidency.

His presidency which would have the symbol of a spanner, he claimed, would address among other things, the eradication of poverty and the long standing challenge of tribalism.
