Lyon ends PSG record as Solskjaer stares in disbelief

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s post-Leicester dash to France to take in PSG’s clash with Lyon will have given the interim Manchester United manager plenty to think about.

The Norwegian was present to witness the French giants’ first league defeat of the season.

Moussa Dembele and Nabil Fekir struck for Lyon to overturn Angel di Maria’s early goal and sentence PSG to their first loss.

Cesc Fabregas got the winner as Monaco ended their six-game winless streak, beating Toulouse 2-1 to move out of the automatic relegation spots.

Atletico Madrid wasted a golden opportunity to make ground on La Liga leaders Barcelona and allowed Real Madrid to close in on them.

Diego Simeone’s side travelled to Betis yesterday after Barca had only drawn with Valencia 24 hours earlier. But a penalty from Sergio Canales in the 65th minute for Betis was the only goal of the game.

Lionel Messi rescued Barca from a two-goal deficit at Camp Nou. Kevin Gameiro and a Dani Parejo penalty had put the visitors in command, but Messi halved the deficit with a penalty of his own before a curling strike from outside the area in the 65th minute brought his side level.

Real strolled to a 3-0 win against Alaves, leaving them just two behind Atletico.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich suffered the same fate as Atletico, wasting their own chance to reduce the deficit. They suffered a 3-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen while Borussia Dortmund were held to a 1-1 draw by Eintracht Frankfurt.

The slip-up allowed Borussia Monchengladbach’s win, courtesy of two late goals against Schalke, to put them back into second spot.

In Serie A, Juventus failed to win for just the third time this season, drawing 3-3 with Parma.

Former Arsenal man Gervinho scored a brace, including a 93rd-minute equaliser to secure a point for mid-table Parma.

That unexpected result allowed Napoli to reduce the gap between the top two to nine points. They easily dispatched Sampdoria 3-0 in Naples.
