Fake Job Advert! Scammer Alert! Stay Woke

With skyrocketing level of unemployment, every individual is out there looking for an opportunity. Internet is the common avenue for job seekers to seek and apply for job opportunities. Every day there are job opportunities published on websites such as linked in, Brighter Monday, and other similar sites. One job opportunity receives thousands of applicants and the employers are left to choose the best candidates.

Scammers have taken an opportunity to lure desperate job seekers into applying fake jobs posted by such malicious fellows. The intentions of these scammers is more than what just meets the eye. They not only mislead job seekers, but also collect money from the applicants in the name of admission fees.

The worst they do is steal applicant’s personal information such as address, contacts, and use them to advance their malicious intentions of theft. It is difficult for an individual to know when their information is being misused by a scammer.

They masquerade as legitimate compares looking for employees and before you know it you have been tricked to apply for a fake job

For example,more than once have you heard about the National 2019 census recruitment. Scammers have also heard it and they have gone out to advertise fake jobs on the 2019 census. The Kenya National Bureau of statistics has come out to caution the public against the fake jobs on the 2019 census. The bureau published on its website that it is not currently recruiting personnel to conduct the 2019 National Census activities.

“The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) would like to bring to the attention of the public that it has not placed any job advertisement for the 2019 Census, as is being purported through social media,” read the communication by KNBS.

The statement continued “We wish to notify the public that all our recruitment are coordinated from our Human Resource Management and Development office in Nairobi.

“All KNBS job advertisements are done through the daily newspapers, uploaded on the website, www.knbs.or.ke, and a link sent to the official social media sites.

To avoid landing into the hands of scammers consider the following three things when applying for any job

  1. Check the website of the job poster.
  2. Contact the employer to confirm whether they are employing
  3. Avoid sending any monies to job advertisers.
