Details of Chelsea boss secret talks with players after Bournemouth loss

Maurizio Sarri has defended the secret talk he conducted with Chelsea players after their 0-4 loss to Bournemouth.

It was widely reported that Sarri locked himself with the players inside the dressing room and talked to them for over forty minutes after the Vitality Stadium loss. Sarri, according to the reports, did talk with the players without his technical bench and after the talk, it is said he did not board the club’s bus. He has now said he did not attack the players.

“I didn’t attack the players. I talked to them because I needed to understand. Then I went to my home immediately because I wanted to review the match. There wasn’t another reason. I said that maybe I wasn’t able to motivate them. If there were some mental problems it could be players, technical staff or the club. But I cannot think to the club, only the players and the staff. We must be doing something wrong, the staff first of all. So I said we are not able to motivate them. In the other match, I said it was probably difficult to motivate them. It is a part of my job, of course, but I want to change the mentality.” he told reporters in his pre-match presser.

The former Napoli gaffer further defended his decision to keep playing Jorginho in Chelsea’s deep midfield position saying that that is the way he wants Chelsea to play football. N’Golo Kante has since been drafted in the right side of midfield and allowed to play high up the pitch since Jorginho’s arrival.

I want to do very well the Plan A. I don’t want to change something that isn’t working, I want to see it play well and then we look to change something. Everybody ten years ago knew Barcelona, they won everything because they played well their football. I want to play my football. It depends what you want from Jorginho. If it is the last pass then he has not adapted. He usually plays 40 or 45 minutes from goal, so it is impossible to so the last pass. He is very good at other things.” Sarri said.

Chelsea will play Huddersfield on Saturday. The 0-4 loss is the worst defeat of the Abramovich era.
