Bhang is considered the “wisdom weed” by Rastafarians, as its use helps one to gain wisdom.
Rastafarians use it as a part of a religious rite and as a means of getting closer to their inner spiritual self, Jah (God) and Creation.
But Governor Mike Sonko who is not known to be a Rastafarian, he sensationally claimed that he used to smoke bhang with his Kiambu counterpart Ferdinand Waititu when they were Members of Parliament.
Bhang is illegal in Kenya and his claims that he they used to smoke Marijuana in parliament was an insult not only to Kenyans but the constitution.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Governor Sonko claimed to have been a witness to this.
Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu has however refuted Sonkos claims that he smoked bhang during his stint as a Parliamentarian representing Embakasi Constituency between 2008 and 2012.
Sonko had alleged that Waititu was his partner-in-crime, when it came to marijuana smoking. Sonko was the then-MP for Makadara Constituency.
“Waititu and I threw a lot of stones when we were MPs; smoked a lot of weed; we would hide them in our socks and then go smoke [the bhang] in the [men’s] toilet,” Sonko said, but quickly added the disclaimer: “But I don’t smoke [bhang] anymore.”
Speaking on Jeff Koinange Live on Wednesday, January 30, Waititu claimed he has “never” abused any hard drugs, whatsoever.
“I have never smoked bhang or used any illegal drugs in my life,” he said.
“I know why Sonko said what he said [last week on JKL]. I never take him seriously. But, if [those allegations] had come from somebody else, I would have sued him or her for defamation,” said Waititu.
“It is very disappointing to hear such words coming from somebody who is entrusted with the lives of over 4 million people in Nairobi. It is high time that he becomes serious. He is a leader now; he shouldn’t be a joker anymore. 
I am a respectable parent, a serious person. I thank God for the far He has brought me. I am serious person, who sometimes never looks very serious; and you don’t have to be serious every time,” added Waititu.
“The days of throwing stones are over. I am able to use the law to do whatever I want. I know Sonko would want to be associated with me. I know so much power has gotten into his head. He thinks he can get away with everything. He has no regard for everyone. I want to ask him not to forget where he came from.”
