Long-Term Man Utd Target Denies Agreeing New Barcelona Deal

Manchester United and Juventus target Jordi Alba has not agreed a new contract with Barcelona, contrary to reports from Spain.

The Spain defender is believed to have been in talks with Barca over a new deal with his current contract expiring in June 2020.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu said on Monday that the Catakans would offer the player a five-year contract and Cadena Ser reported on Wednesday that the experienced left-back had agreed to extend his contract until June 2024.

Alba though has denied he has agreed a new contract and speaking after Barca’s 6-1 win over Sevilla in Thursday’s Copa del Rey return leg, he told Diario AS: “Regarding the contract extension, there hasn’t been any change. They even said that I had renewed my contract but it’s not true what is being reported.”

The left-back’s current deal at the Camp Nou expires in June 2020 and possesses a €150m release clause but he wants an improved contract.

Sport claimed Juventus and Manchester United are both tracking the player’s situation and are ready to exploit any problems between Barca and Alba.

The Spain international recently re-iterated his happiness at the Nou Camp, but failed to rule out a possible departure.

“You never know in football, but I repeat that my intention is to stay here come what may,” he told Sport.

“I have never seen myself outside of Barcelona, since I have been at Barca it’s my dream [to stay].

“As the years have passed I have kept growing and I notice the affection from the fans even more. I have always seen myself in Barcelona and my dream is to retire here.”
