Stomachs are often turned whenever the public hear that police officers turn on the wananchi inflicting serious harm on them yet they are supposed to be besties with the officers protecting the civilians.
This is often way more annoying due to the knowledge that law never prosecutes such criminals leaving thm to hold their victims hostage as they proceed with ill characters.
The history has however been successfully today by a court magistrate who found a police officer guilty of inhumanity.
A Nairobi court has convicted a former senior Administration Police (AP) then stationed at Mathare as officer incharge for causing grievous harm to a hawker.
Delivering the judgement, Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithinji ruled that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that former Inspector Gregory Wabwire assaulted Dominic Munyoki causing him serious head and leg injuries.
The court heard that Wabwire arrested Munyoki on December 31, 2011 and took him to the Chief’s camp at Huruma estate for allegedly refusing to remove a handcart that was blocking the road.
The refusal annoyed the AP who took Munyoki to the Chief’s camp where he is said to have beaten him severely with a metal bar causing him several head injuries and a fracture on the leg.
