“Security and vetting of hawkers” Nairobi CBD Car free days explained

The government has suspended the car-free days in the city for another two weeks.

Transport CS James Macharia said the suspension is to enable them to vet hawkers and traders so that they are sure who will be occupying the area provided.

“These vetting will involve measures to enhance security taking into consideration the recent terror attack in DusitD2,” Macharia told the Star.

This comes just days after the an IED explosion went off in Nairobi CBD near Latema Junction.

It caused a lot of tension though the security forces arrived on time to ensure that everything was under control.

This move by CS Macharia has received different reactions from Kenyans who think otherwise.

The introduction of BRT buses is backed as an alternative when this ban will be fully implemented.
