Nairobi residents condemn Sonko’s decision to renovate only two markets

Despite several political  declarations by governor Mike Sonko on his  agenda to renovate city markets, ksh. 50 million allocated for the renovations of county markets in the 2018/2019 financial year will be used to renovate only two markets.

Uhuru market that president Uhuru Kenyatta  visited last year is one of the two markets  located along Jogoo road  set to benefit from the scheduled facelift .

But the move to renovate only two markets with ksh.50 million s has attracted criticism as residents from Githurai and Kayole are condemning the move as misplaced.

Githurai  market and Kayole market are in very deplorable state and area residents have raised concerns over the criteria that was used to  come up with  the  two markets for renovation.

Meanwhile  county chief officer trade Nairobi city county, Fredrick Nzioki  has defended the move saying  the two markets deserved the allocation.

He also asked members of the public to be patient saying other markets will also be renovated.

‘‘We will consider other markets in the next financial  year and we want  to urge the public to give us more time.’’ He added.
