Will Gonzalo Higuain Arrival Mean Major Change For Eden Hazard At Chelsea?

Chelsea this week confirmed the signing of Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus until the end of the season.

The Argentina striker, 31, spent the first half of the campaign at AC Milan where he scored eight goals in 22 games.

He is now set to lead the line for Chelsea with immediate effect, believes ex-Tottenham star Mason.

Mason told The Debate: “Will Higuain’s arrival mean Hazard goes back to the wing? I think so. I think so.

“I think that’s why they’ve done everything to get Higuain in to put him up top as that No.9, that focal point.

“It means the likes of Hazard, Willian and Pedro can play in their more natural positions and get involved in the game a lot more.

“It will just be interesting to see how Higuain adapts because to come to the Premier League in January, halfway through the season, it’s going to be difficult and I’ll be very surprised if he hits the ground running because Serie A, it’s a different league altogether.

Chelsea have the option to loan Higuain for one more year for £15.6m at the end of the season – or buy him permanently for £31.2m.

He will wear the No.9 shirt at Stamford Bridge and could even make his debut in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri said: “We have problems to score. Higuain usually is able to score 25 or 30 goals every season.

“In my first season in Naples he did very well. He is one of the best strikers I have managed.”
