De Gea or no De Gea, Manchester United are in safe hands. Here’s why

David de Gea has been rested for tomorrow’s FA Cup game at Arsenal with the Spaniard unable to recreate his heroics in London from last week, where he pulled off 11 saves in one half against Tottenham, during the 1-0 win.

Instead, cup keeper Sergio Romero will take his place in between the sticks for the game which provides Manchester United’s best chance of winning a trophy this season. In the Premier League since De Gea joined in 2011-12, the club have won 150 games out of the 260 that the Spaniard has played which works out at a percentage of 58.

In the games he hasn’t played, which is only 29, United have won an impressive 20 of them, given an overall win percentage of 69.

The Red Devils have one of the best number two goalkeepers in world football in Argentinian ace Romero, who played every game as United won the Europa League in 2017.

His most recent appearance was a Man of the Match display in the last round of the FA Cup where a weak 2-0 win was enough to secure that award, and the Argentine looks set to start again. He has travelled down with fellow goalkeepers Lee Grant and Joel Pereira but it looks like Romero will be the man in between the sticks tomorrow night.

De Gea may have been in flying form in London, but Romero should keep the goal safe on Friday night as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette try to find a way past him.
