Manchester United have been told they need to spend £88m if they want to sign Philippe Courtinho from Barcelona, according to reports.

United have been continuously linked with a move for the former Liverpool midfielder in recent weeks and now it has emerged that Coutinho’s asking price has reportedly been established.

ESPN suggest the Catalan giants won’t sell the Brazil international this month and that any bid for the Brazilian has to meet the £88m asking price.

The report states United have ‘sent out feelers’ to see if any potential move is possible, with club officials having reportedly approached the player’s representatitves.

However, the report suggests any deal is unlikely because Barcelona still wan to see the best of Coutinho at the club despite his recent lack of playing time.

MEN Sport reports there isn’t any concrete interest from United in a deal, with the club still prioritising the signature of a top central defender ahead of any attacking additions.
