Brutally defiled minor moved to Nairobi for reconstructive surgery

The 13-year-old Homa Bay girl who was raped and her private parts mutilated has been transferred to Nairobi Women’s Hospital for specialised treatment.

The minor was moved on Thursday following the intervention of the state department of gender and social services and local leaders.

She will undergo reconstructive surgery after another operation at Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, acting Homa Bay Referral Hospital CEO Meshack Liru and area Woman Representative Gladys Wanga said they expect the girl’s health condition to improve.

“The surgery will be for repairing damages on girl’s private parts which were cut with a razor blade. She is unable to walk,” Liru said.

Liru said the surgery done was to control excessive bleeding.

He said the corrective surgery is to prevent the girl from having future complications, especially during childbirth.

“To avoid the rapture of the birth canal, the minor must undergo a medical procedure that will repair her damaged genitals,” Liru said.

Police in Homa Bay County arrested eight suspects who are connected with the defilement of the 13-year-old girl at Shauri Yako estate in Homa Bay town last week.The minor is a class eight pupil.

The suspects whose identities are still with held by police were arrested on Wednesday within Homa Bay town in connection with the alleged crime that happened last week.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum who confirmed the arrest says that police officers will sort out the eight suspects who are currently held at Homa Bay Police Station to find put the real suspects who committed the heinous act.
