Bilbao confirm interest in re-signing Man Utd’s Herrera

Athletic Bilbao have confirmed that they are interested in re-signing Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera as well as three other players.

The Spaniard swapped Bilbao for Manchester in 2014 when the Red Devils activated a buyout clause in his contract with the La Liga outfit.

Herrera is currently allowed to discuss terms with foreign clubs with his contract running out in the summer after United have so far failed to get the 29-year-old to agree to a new deal.

The Manchester Evening News claims that Herrera is currently in talks with United over a new contract, while sources close to the player say that he is ‘committed to United’.

Atheltic Bilbao’s sporting director, Rafael Alkorta, has gone on record to say that they are interested in signing Herrera, although no progress has been made at this stage.

“We are interested in Javi Martínez, Ibai, Ander Herrera, [Fernando] Llorente… we’re interested in all of them,” Alkorta told Spanish network Cadena Ser.

“We still haven’t made progress. We’ll get together on Tuesday to see what can be done. I have just returned and this week we will look at our options.”

Bilbao are currently one of the form teams in Europe with Gaizka Garitano continuing to work some kind of magic.
