Why Chelsea Screwed Up Allowing Christian Pulisic To Stay At Dortmund

Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund confirmed last week that US star Pulisic will join Chelsea in the summer following a 57 million pound deal.

Pulisic, 20, will remain with Dortmund until the end of the season ‘on loan’.

According to Marcotti, Chelsea may have made a mistake in allowing Pulisic to stay in Germany until the summer.

So far this season, Pulisic has only made five starts for Dortmund.

Why has he seen such few minutes? Many have pointed to Jadon Sancho’s impressive season at BVB, while the likes of Jacob Bruun Larsen and Paco Alcácer have also helped keep Pulisic out the side.

That triggers the following question, raised by Marcotti:

Pulisic reportedly said that he wanted the benefit of a full pre-season under Sarri and that settling in the summer would be easier than doing so in January.

Maybe so, but equally you wonder how much of a priority he’ll be for Dortmund from now until June.

And while it may be true that it takes more time to settle after a mid-season move, surely the benefits of getting to Stamford Bridge six months earlier outweigh this?

While Chelsea have signed Pulisic, rumours keep building that Callum Hudson-Odoi could leave Stamford Bridge to join Bayern Munich.

How should fans reconcile these two deals?

Are they connected?
