Manchester United have been linked with Senegalese international and Napoli superstar Kalidou Koulibaly for quite some time and the latest reports going on in the media are very interesting.
According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Manchester United are ‘ready’ to come up with a huge offer to secure the signing of the African star from the Serie A side in the summer transfer window.
The renowned Italian news outlet have stated that Barcelona are also in the race to sign Koulibaly, for whom, Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, would listen to offers of around €120million i.e. £108million.
The 27-year-old star is at the peak of his game at the moment and he is regarded as one of the best central defenders in the world.
Koulibaly would strengthen any defense and Man United must sign him to reinforce their shaky back-line.
However, United must not wait for the next summer to lure a commanding center half, instead, they must splash the cash in the winter transfer window.
The Red Devils have regularly leaked goals this season and they are eight points behind fourth placed Chelsea at the moment. Their current defensive setup is not good enough to earn them Champions League qualification for next season. So, this is something that must be resolved at the earliest.
A top center half could change the dynamics of the entire defense and Liverpool’s record signing, Van Dijk, is the perfect example. The Dutch international has completely transformed Klopp’s defense. Also, a lot of credit goes to their summer signing Alisson, who is a top goalie.
United already have a world class shot stopper in the form of De Gea and only the defensive leader is missing. Koulibaly has all the leadership traits needed to solve the defensive conundrum at Old Trafford and Woodward must act to lure him now that the winter transfer window is open.
