Mentally ill aunt slashes niece to death

Mentally ill 20-year-old aunt allegedly slashed her six-year-old niece with a panga, killing her on the spot, for refusing to take shower in Mutatia village in Githunguri, Kiambu County,

Felista Mulongo Wafula brutally murdered little Benteta Barongo Okwaro, one of the grand daughters of 39-year-old Benteta Mulongo Wafula, after the deceased attempted to resist being bathed by locking herself inside a room.

Police report seen by TUKO.co.ke on Monday, December 31, indicated Wafula had left her mentally disturbed last born, Felista, with her two granddaughters Barongo, now deceased, and two-year-old Josphine Neema Okwaro to attend a church service at African Divine Church Kagwe, about 20 kilometers away from home.

“She (Wafula) returned home at around 1800 hours and found a lifeless body of Benteta Barongo Okwaro lying on the floor with deep physical cuts,” the police report, filed under Occurrence Book (OB) number 52/30/12/2018, indicated.

Wafula told the police she arrived home only to find her grandchild, who was a pupil at Gitiha Nursery School, lying still on the floor and in a pool of blood.

When she asked her daughter Felista what had transpired, the daughter explained she wanted to bathe the two kids, Barongo and Neema, but the deceased tried to escape by hiding herself in one of the rooms.

Felista then grabbed a jembe, broke into the room where Barongo had locked up herself, took a panga and started slashing the helpless young girl.

According to the police, the mentally ill Felista cut Barongo in the stomach, both hands, hip, right leg and waist, killing her instantly. After Wafula reported the chilling murder incident at the Githunguri Police Station, officers were immediately dispatched to the scene of crime.

When they arrived, the found the suspect had already been arrested by Administration Police (AP) officers from the Kambaa post.

“They found the deceased lying on the floor with deep physical injuries. The scene was processed, photographed and body moved to city mortuary awaiting postmortem while the suspect is in custody,” the police report indicated.
