Mogosiek Location chief and his assistant sacked by Matiang’i

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i had ordered investigations against a chief and his assistant in Bomet county over an incident in which children were reportedly hospitalised after drinking chang’aa in Kaproret village, Bomet county.

In a statement dispatched to newsrooms, Matiang’i faulted the two administration officials for negligence, ordering the local regional commissioner to oversee the probe against them

Well the CS has fired Mogosiek Location chief and his assistant after five children were reported to have drank chang’aa in the area.

The five minors are reported to have stumbled upon a 5-litre jerry can of the illicit brew and drank until they fell unconscious in Kaproret village.

Four people alleged to be part of a cartel of chang’aa brewers have since been arrested over the incident and are currently being held at Konoin police station awaiting to be arraigned in court.

“We will spare no effort or resources in protecting Kenyans from these toxic substances especially if they affect the lives of our innocent children. We will act firmly and decisively on this matter” said Matiang’i.

Two of the children were treated and discharged from Kapkatet hospital and all the five are now said to be okay.

The Interior Ministry also issued a stern warning to those engaging in chang’aa trade saying action will be taken on local administrators for failing to crackdown on the vice.

“We will remain uncompromising in enforcing our zero-tolerance policy on brewing and distribution of illicit liquor,” read the statement.
