Ex-Barcelona man causing ripples at Borussia

Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer has continued his hot streak in front of goal for the German league leaders as he netted yet again on Tuesday night in a Bundesliga match at Fortuna Dusseldorf. The former Barcelona man’s goal was his 10th as a substitute in the league which saw him surpass the previous record of nine goals.

The most astounding fact about the record is that Alcacer’s 10 goals as a substitute have come in just 16 league games while the previous record of nine goals held by Nils Petersen and Ioan Ganea was set over the course of an entire Bundesliga season which comprises 34 games. That means Alcacer could yet extend his new record to a more unbelievable number as the season progresses.

Alcacer, who recently made his loan deal from Barcelona to Dortmund permanent, has now scored 12 goals this season to lead the goalscorers’ chart in Germany’s top flight. He is followed by Dortmund teammate and captain Marco Reus with 10 goals. Reus is tied on 10 goals by Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, Luka Jovic of Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner.

Unfortunately for Alcacer, his goal came as an 81st minute consolation in a shock 2-1 defeat for Dortmund at Dusseldorf; the first league defeat suffered by Lucien Favre’s team. Dortmund will look to bounce back from this setback when they face second placed Borussia Monchengladbach in Friday’s blockbuster ahead of the winter break
