Arsenal boss speaks on Mourinho sacking

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has admitted that he was astonished to learn that Manchester United had parted ways with manager Jose Mourinho on Tuesday 18th December.

Mourinho was relieved of his duties after losing 3-1 to bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday 16th December which marked the worst start to a season for Manchester United in 28 years.

It was also reported that Mourinho had fallen out with most of his players especially with Paul Pogba who was an unused sub in the defeat to Liverpool. United now sit sixth on the table 19 points off Liverpool who are at top of the English Premier League table.

Emery revealed that he was surprised when he heard the news of Mourinho’s sacking, “When one coach is taken off it is not good news for us. The only thing I can say to you is that it’s a surprise for me and not good news because when one coach finishes his work like that it’s not good for coaches.”

The Spaniard was speaking at a press conference ahead of their Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham and was asked to provide an assessment of Mourinho’s tenure at United, “My focus is only on our way, our work. We have a lot of work to do to improve and also find a solution in every match with our players. My focus is on the big derby tomorrow, the north London derby, and that’s the focus of the players as well. Only that
