Manchester United this morning parted ways with Jose Mourinho after just over two years at the club having lead United to their worst ever start to a Premier League season. Michael Carrick will now step in as interim manager with several other names being bandied about by viewers and pundits alike.
Despite the shocking results recently, included damaging defeats to Liverpool and Man City, Mourinho was remarkably set to continue to lead the club over the Christmas period with the hope he would keep them in touch with the rest of the top four. However, there was one surprising moment last night that broke the camel’s back.
Manchester United’s youth team were in action in the FA Youth Cup as Mason Greenwood and co took on Chelsea in one of the biggest youth games of the season for both teams. Chelsea have been at the top of the tree in terms of youth teams having won the last five FA Youth Cups yet Manchester United, led by their hottest young talent Mason Greenwood secured a thrilling 4-3 win at Leigh Sports Village.
Greenwood bagged a hat-trick as he continues to push for a place in the first team yet Jose Mourinho was not there watching, whereas Michael Carrick was.
It is thought the United board saw this sheer ignorance by Mourinho as the last straw as he showed no interest in the young players at the club, instead keeping his focus on the first team.
Now Carrick is in charge for the time-being and United will want their next boss to play exciting football and put his face in youth players at the club. United’s principles must be adhered to under any manager and they were lost under Jose Mourinho.
