Embattled KNH Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lily Koros has been appointed at the Health Ministry. Although Koros was suspended as KNH CEO by Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, Principal Secretary Peter Tum confirmed her appointment.
New Role
Koros was hired as Administration Secretary at the Health ministry where she will work under PS Tum. “She is in charge of administration and her job entails oversight of the general administration duties in the ministry, which include finance, accounts and other departments,” the Health PS stated. The Health Ministry is divided into the technical wing led by the Director of Medical Services and administration section headed by the PS.

CS Kariuki sent Ms Koros on compulsory leave in March after a neurosurgery mix-up that resulted in a brain surgery being performed on the wrong patient. A section of MPs from the Rift Valley region raised a storm over Koros suspension who threatened to impeach the Health CS.
Changes
After Koros was suspended, Thomas Mutie was appointed as the acting CEO at KNH. “I wish to pronounce myself on this matter by appointing in acting capacity Dr Mutie and Dr Ogech; both competent professionals who understand the systems in this hospital to take over and support the board complete the investigations which I have directed be conducted immediately,” CS Kariouki announced. The appointment of Koros to the Health Ministry will now pave the way for KNH to hire a CEO to oversee its five-year plan.
