Kenyatta Unveils new strategy to achieve Universal Health Coverage

 

President Kenyatta has today presided over the 2018 World Health Organization Global Management Meeting, as they start their deliberations in Nairobi.

During the  inauguration of Kenyatta’s second term in office, President Kenyatta prioritized the attainment of Affordable Healthcare for all as one of the Big Four Priorities for his Government for the period 2019-2022

The President has assured the governments efforts to ensure that Kenyans get the best services from the healthcare system.

Kenyatta also noted that Kenya is the first country to host this meeting outside the World Health Organization Headquarters in Geneva.

“This indeed, is a testament to the strong bond of friendship and collaboration that we continue to share over the years and speaks to even greater cooperation in the future, as we seek to individually and collectively achieve our goals & aspirations” He said

President Kenyatta added that constraints in health resources due to increased health demands, requires funding innovations & increased inter-sectoral collaboration to meet the needs of our people.

He also mentioned that inorder to  make Universal Health Care a reality by 2030, Kenya must sustain momentum generated by the MDGs in order to attain SDG targets.

“It should concern all of us that nearly half of the world’s population still do not have full coverage of essential health services & that almost 12% of the world’s population spend at least 10% of their household budgets to pay for health care” he said

The Head of State mentioned that over the years, the government has progressively increased financing for the health sector and implemented several initiatives, aimed at promoting equity and targeting those most vulnerable amongst Kenyas population.
