Every racist, no matter how valuable the government deems their contributions to be, must be subjected to prosecution and punishment.Kenyans have been subjected to discriminations by foreigners not only t home but also abroad.
A court has ordered a night club in Australia to pay a Kenyan student Ksh 221,000 for racially discriminating against him.
Ivan Kibet, a second year Law student at Victoria University told the court that Empire Nightclub on October 7, 2017 denied him access into the facility because of his skin colour.
Mr Kibet explained that he was in the company of his Caucasian friends when they were allowed in, and he left outside.
He further explained that he has since then cut ties with his friends to save himself the shame. The court also heard that Kibet suffered from anxiety and has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
His mother, Caroline Chumba says that it was painful to see her son go through anxiety and mental health issues because of racism and humiliation.
A tribunal sitting in Melbourne, Australia has ordered the nightclub to pay Mr Kibet the aforementioned amount of money before December 20.
“The Tribunal finds that the respondent discriminated against the applicant because of his race in contravention of section 44 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. The respondent must pay to the applicant the sum of $3000 by December 20,” the ruling read.
The tribunal further ordered that the club trains employees who work at the entry of the club, or charged with managing and making decisions on the entry of patrons to the club.
