ODM is Hypocritical in Dispensing Punishment to Aisha and her Counterparts

The decision to recommend the expulsion of the rebellious members of the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has been met with lots of opposition from a section of Kenyans with some arguing that if Aisha an Dori are being expelled for working with Ruto, then Raila Odinga, the ODM party leader should also be suspended for working with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi argues that it is ironical for ODM to discipline Hon. Aisha Jumwa and Dori for supporting Ruto, the second in command in Jubilee but see nothing wrong when Raila work’s with Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ahmednasir has compared ODM to a peculiar animal farm.

“ODM doesn’t see the irony of disciplining Hon Dori & Aisha for expressing support for DP Ruto, the No 2 in Jubilee…yet it’s ok for Hon Raila ODM party leader to support the policies & politics of HE Uhuru, the No1 in Jubilee.ODM is obviously a peculiar animal farm,” said Ahmednasir.

Jumwa and Dori are expected to be summoned by the party’s National Executive Council early next year prior to the final decision being taken.

“Having looked at the report by the Disciplinary Committee, the National Executive Council of the party adopted the report. The NEC shall invite the members recommended for expulsion to appear before it at a special NEC meeting to be held early next year,” said Sifuna.

Ms. Jumwa and Mr. Dori ran into trouble with the party over their outright support of Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

The disciplinary committee has now called for their expulsion from the party over gross misconduct.

Also targeted are seven Members of County Assembly — six from Homa Bay and Immaculate Adhiambo of Busia County — who are accused of disobeying party decisions and have also been recommended for expulsion.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, during  a meeting of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) held in Nairobi and attended by among others ODM leader Raila Odinga.

It seems like the decision to expel the alleged rebellious members has not been received well by a section of Kenyans while others have welcomed the move by ODM saying that the two already walked out on the Party and should therefore seek for fresh mandate to serve in Parliament through another Party.

“Aisha Jumwa & Suleiman Dori were elected to Parliament by people of Malindi & Msambweni on ODM ticket … As they abandoned ODM, it’s only Moral & Just that they resign their seats & subject themselves to new mandate by the voters. Let the Voters Decide,” said Lawyer Donald Kipkorir.

“Let us go back to the ballot and if MPs Aisha Jumwa & Suleiman Dori win back their seats through another party, then bet it. Party discipline must be maintained. If you want to chart a different course you drop the previous one –

“It’s very interesting that Aisha Jumwa and Suleiman Dori were elected to Parliament by people of Malindi and Msambweni on ODM ticket and now they believe they have the might to do it by themselves. Let them resign & go to the ballot for a by election and see if they get elected –

The country seem to be divided on this issue with different people giving different views. What’s your take on the whole fiasco?
