The list of KCPE candidates who were shortlisted to join Form One in national schools in 2019 has been released by the Ministry of Education.

Checking the selected schools has been made easier as parents and candidates are required to send the target index number to an SMS to 22384 or logging into the KNEC website education.go.ke.

Here are the steps to follow when sending the message;

Step 1

Open the messaging app on your device.

Step 2

Type the following message on the text field: *LNK#INDEX Number. For example, the message can be like this: *LNK#0471247885. 

Step 3

Send the message to 22384.

Step 4

Wait for the alert.

The service is available for all mobile phone carriers an also attracts a charge of Kshs 25.

Admission to Extra County and County schools will be released on December 5 and will also be available through the same method.

However,for those with an internet connection, the selection can be accessed online just login the ministry’s website education.go.ke and follow the instructions.

Data from the ministry shows that the available spaces in the 103 national schools stood at 29,712.

In 2018, 12,273 candidates scored 401 marks and above and, therefore, guaranteed slots at some of the prestigious schools.

A few years ago, the release of national results for Class 8 (KCPE) and Form 4 (KSCE) candidates was a lengthy process that stretched to a near 3-month wait.However the ministry of education made changes.

The new rules include online transmission of admission letters, verifying admission figures for each school against declared capacity and compelling head teachers to report vacancies so they are filled up in consultation with the ministry.

The selection of candidates who will join Form One in 2019 started on December 3, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has said.

Speaking at Star of the Sea Primary School in Mombasa while releasing the 2018 KCPE exam results Monday, Ms Mohamed said that the selection will be done only once unlike previously when there has been a second selection.

The CS also revealed that over 50 percent of the candidates scored over 250 marks.

In this year’s exam, boys performed better than girls in Mathematics while, on the other hand, girls did better in English and Kiswahili.

At the same time, the Education CS revealed that none of the nine papers administered during the 2018 KCPE exam were leaked.
