The Inspector General has in the past defended the choice of blue colour for new police uniforms saying it is universal and friendly to the public. According to Boinnet, the colour is recognised globally and its choice in Kenya would enable the police to easily integrate with civilians.

“In the recent reforms, the issue of the colour has been more spoken about but we chose it because it is more attributed to the police services,” he said.

Boinnet further said that the blue colour is less militaristic because it is distinct from colours commonly used by other security forces.

“We wanted a colour that would be quite different from what is commonly used by security services in the country.”

President Uhuru Kenyatta in September unveiled the new uniform for police officers which he said will enhance better visibility for the officers.

The regalia is being supplied by the National Police Service and is expected to be rolled out to the entire service by December 12 when Kenya marks Jamhuri Day.

Many Kenyans have come out and said the new uniform is ugly however, we all better start getting used to the new look of the men in blue because from the look of things, these uniforms are here to stay.

Do you fancy the new uniforms?
