Matatu Welfare Association Chairman speaks on the CBD Ban

Chairperson of Matatu Welfare Association;Dickson Mbugua has weighed in on the Matatu CBD ban as commuters have today morning been forced to walk after Sonko’s directive that no Matatus should go into CBD, Nairobi.

Speaking during an interview on a local TV station, Dickson Mbugua shared his thought saying that the ban was not well planned and is not even based on statistics. For this reason, he says that this will not provide a lasting  solution to the issue of traffic and congestion.

He also noted that this is a move that was gazetted by the government since May last year. He however fault the directive saying that no proper agreement was made.

“The issue of relocation has been done in a hazardous way because it is not based on the statistics of vehicles matatus that’s come from estate to town and the vehicles that end their rides in town.” he said

Dickson Mbugua also added that a proper  meeting should have been conducted with the traffic department and the NTSA in order come up with various options to curb the traffic menace.

The Matatu Welfare association chairman also believes that relocating the Matatus from CBD will not be a solution but will only pave way for people with private vehicles; to storm into town.

Even though they were initially public transport users.

Some Kenyans have also questioned the effectiveness and sustainability of this ban.

Have a look at a number of reactions.
