Outstanding qualities of Twalib Abdallah Mbarak nominated for EACC

Corruption is truly changing the face of Kenya. With the emerging cases of embezzlement piling at the desk each and every day, Kenya needs one hell of a man with the ability to shape the state of our nation’s bribery acts.

Twalib Abdallah Mbarak was on Thursday nominated to take over  from Halaqhe Wako as CEO of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Mr Mbarak will replace Halakhe Waqo, whose six-year, non-renewable term is ending

Mbarak is a former military intelligence officer trained in Kenya, South Africa, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

He joined the military in 1984 and served until 1999 as an infantry officer, later joining military intelligence.

Mbarak went on to work with the National Intelligence Service (NIS) until 2006.

He worked with with the EACC  from 2010 before joining power generating firm Kengen in 2012 as Security and Integrity Manager.

Mbarak is trained in security management by the International Security Management Institute of the United Kingdom.

He graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2009.

Mbarak also holds Master of Arts degree in Armed Conflict and Peace Studies.

In addition, Mbarak is a regular guest columnist for Daily Nation on security issues.

If approved by the National Assembly, Mbarak would replace Waqo who served from January 2013.

He bet 13 candidates who had applied for the position including Michael Mubea, who is the deputy EACC chief executive.

Mr Mbarak is currently the Security and Integrity Manager at the power generating firm Kengen.

Others who were shortlisted for interviews were Ms Sarah Kilemi, National Police Service Commission board official Murshid Mohamed, Mr James Warui, Mr Vincent Omari, Mr Jillo Kasse, Mr Chege Thenya, Mr Reuben Chirchir, Mr Cyrus Oguna, Mr Abdi Mohamud, Mr Twalib Mbarak, Mr Joel Mabonga and Ms Lucy Wanja.

The EACC chief executive post is a one term, non-renewable contract of six years.

Mr Mbarak’s name will be forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and approval.

Qualifications for the post include a post-graduate degree from a recognised university, and clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Higher Education Loans Board, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Credit Reference Bureau. ​
