The internet has got to be one of the most unforgiving spaces as people especially those on the Twitter streets can be the roughest. For one Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, his attempt to deliver a ‘professional’ speech at the first ever global Sustainable Blue Economy Conference has made him the laughing stock in town.
Governor Sonko’s speech is a great reminder to all of us to stay true to who we are. Trying to be someone you’re not or trying to impress others often doesn’t really go well with you.
The video that went viral on social media yesterday showed the Governor acquire an American tweng that we as Nairobi citizens have never heard. In his speech, Sonko addressed the President as ‘Kenyarra’ and all other t’s in his vocabulary changed to be r’s.
Here’s the video thatΒ left Kenyans in stitches:

Governor Sonko has always embraced his ‘ghetto’ roots and had a don’t attitude especially in the way he speaks. The presence of over 17,000 delegates from all over the world might have intimidated him a bit, don’t you think so?
Here are some of the reactions from KOT:
He got me at Kenyarra

But honestly, let’s give our Governor some credit. It’s not easy standing before world leader’s to give a presentation. Remember how simple class presentations got you all jittery and sweaty. Sonko was just a Governor under immense pressure and he tried his best to represent Nairobi even though kizungu ilimlemea kidogo.
What do you make of Governor Sonko’s speech?
