Mombasa County Governor  Hassan Joho and Deputy President William Ruto are one of the biggest political enemies and as the handshake spirit continues the two seems not to be ready for it.

However this may be true or not, just recently Mombasa Governor Joho and DP Ruto met in Mombasa at Joho’s Offices  where the two held a brief meeting before the former left for other functions.

This happened to be the first formal meeting between the two rivals after many years of insults and political fights among them.

Details of the brief meeting however remain scanty but Mr Ruto could be keen to lure Joho to his camp in a bid to secure coastal region support ahead of 2022.

Joho, who doubles as ODM deputy party leader, is a trusted lieutenant of Raila Odinga and has severally sworn loyalty to the former Prime Minister.

Since 2017, Ruto has made several trips to the coast and has managed to win support from local leadership, a move that has partly rattled Raila.

Ruto was hosting visiting Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi at State House and is expected to tour Bomet on Sunday where he will be received by former Governor Isaac Ruto.

Joho in the recent past have his intentions to vie for the presidency in 2022, and is hopeful of consolidating the region’s base in his favour.

This brings DP Ruto and Joho in a battle to win the hearts of Kenyans as both are in a race to move in to the hose on hill after President Kenyatta retires in 2022.

DP Ruto has made frequent visits in the coast region on what has been termed as a mission to lure the coastarians to vote for him come 2022, this has also seen some coast leaders who were ODM die hards join hands with DP Ruto for the 2022 race to statehouse.
