Sonko said nurses “will be charged with murder” if any patient dies in the wake of the strike. He said the nurses’ increment will be in this month’s salary.
“The chief officer has drafted a letter to the union that we are complying with and if they participate (in the strike), it will be illegal,” Sonko said.
National Advisory Council of the Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) which met in Kisumu last week issued a 21-day strike notice starting November 19.
According to the council, the decision was reached after the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) cancelled a meeting with the union to discuss the way forward for the implementation of November 2, 2017 return to work formula signed between the national, county governments and Knun.
Kenya Union of Nurses secretary general Seth Panyako said the strike will be to push for implementation of a return to work formula signed in November last year that had factored in service allowance for nurses.
Adding that the agreement was to see nurses get an increment of Sh3,000 in July this year, with additional Sh3,500 next year and a similar increment in July 2020.
Do you think the nurses will still go on with the strike?
