The world has stopped for a few social media addicts across the globe after American online social media and social networking service companies, Facebook and Twitter went down.
The irony however is that Facebook users have taken to the Twitter streets to lament about the downtime the social media application is currently experiencing.
Facebook is down. Hello everyone. Welcome to Twitter. It's nice you could join us. #FacebookDown pic.twitter.com/qqeGa3AwAS

Users reported problems accessing Facebook and Instgram just after 1pm GMT in the UK. According to the site down-detector there have been reports of problems accessing Facebook and Instgram from far and wide – including the USA, Vietnam, Argentina and the UK after a brief outage early in the morning.
Facebook’s Messenger app also experienced downtime that saw users experience trouble while trying to send and receive messages. The outage comes just one day after Facebook unveiled a new feature allowing users to delete messages after sending them.
Did someone press the wrong button in the new update?
Multiple users said that heading to Facebook’s home page showed only a “service unavailable” message while Instagram users found that the web service wouldn’t load, though the app appeared to be working.
It’s not clear if the two outages were connected, though they are both part of Facebook’s broad network of companies.

While Facebook and Instagram have not explained what could be causing the downtime but what is sure is that the widespread outage has significant impact across the internet. Billions of people access Facebook’s family of products each day, meaning that even the shortest issue can hit hundreds of millions of people.
Africa and Kenya doesn’t seem to be affected by the outage therefore you don’t need to panic, you can continue posting your photos of lunch and selfies alike without worrying.
