Charles Villeneuve has revealed that Arsene Wenger was approached by Spanish and German clubs while still in charge of Arsenal.
Villeneuve, a former PSG president and a Wenger’s long-time friend revealed that Bayern Munich approached him due to the manager’s ability to speak four languages. Real Madrid also had talks with the then long-serving boss at the Emirates for a potential move to Santiago Bernabeu.
“Two clubs always wanted him as a coach. One was Bayern Munich because he speaks four different languages. I also went to a gymnasium in Italy to attend negotiations with Real Madrid, but he stayed at Arsenal.” Villeneuve told Marca.
Villeneuve further suggested that Wenger would not make a great club president especially at PSG where the current leadership is doing some good job.
“I think he’d offer great services, but not as president. The current president Nasser Al-Khelaifi does his job well, but great clubs are made through great leaders. A club isn’t only made by great players, so I’d welcome Wenger’s arrival at PSG. The leaders there love Wenger a lot, but he never wanted to go. He is monogamous and his club is Arsenal.” he added.
Wenger eventually left Arsenal after 22 years in charge.
