November 19th marks the International Men’s Day and World Toilet Day something that does not sit well with the men, who in actual fact, rarely get an opportunity to be celebrated like their female counterparts.

While the men are mad, their anger is directed to the wrong people, even though it looks like the two dates were set aside by a woman scorned. However, truth is, you can leave the girl child out of this, I’ll tell you who you should be going after.

The International Men’s Day actually coincides with the birthday of the father of Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, a doctor from Trinidad and Tobago who relaunched International Men’s Day in 1999. The aim of International Men’s Day is to celebrate positive male role models and to raise awareness of men’s issues such as mental health, toxic masculinity and the prevalence of male suicide.

Men’s day also seeks to build a global men’s movement that promotes an ideology encouraging peace and resolving of disputes as well as creating a space for men to openly embrace and talk about mental health issues.

On the other hand, World Toilet Day is a United Nations (UN) observance on November 19, that highlights a serious problem – 2.5 billion people in the world do not have access to proper sanitation.

In 2013, the UN officially recognized November 19 as World Toilet Day in a bid to make sanitation for all a global development priority. It deemed the practice of open-air defecation as “extremely harmful” to public health.

Shocking statistics about the two, did you know that more people in the world have a mobile phone than a toilet? And, did you know that men are three times more likely than women to take their own lives?

Both of these are serious issues that ought to be addressed thus hence the commemoration of both days. It would be a good idea if men would come together and help communities that do not have access to toilets get proper sanitation, wouldn’t it?

With this information men, it’s all just a coincidence, no need to catch feelings now.
