Gor’s Champions League Preparations in top Gear

After a tour of the United Kingdom, Kenyan football powerhouse Gor Mahia are set to resume training tomorrow ahead of their CAF Champions League Campaign.

The Kenyan champions have been drawn to face Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets in the preliminary round and will be seeking to better their display from the last edition where they were bundled out by Esperance of Tunisia.

Gor Mahia CEO Omondi Aduda has revealed that the team will start training on Tuesday and will be under assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno.

“Coach Dylan Kerr is due to undergo some medical checkup in the UK and is yet to return to Kenya. We are hoping that he gets a clean bill of health from doctors so that he can resume his duties but for now, Otieno will take over the training sessions until when Kerr returns,” said Aduda

Gor Mahia will host the Malawian league leaders on 27/28 November before the return leg a week later at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. The winner between the two sides will take on Lobi Stars of Nigeria or US Louam of Cameroon in the first round and a chance to reach the group stages.

Bullets are regarded as the number one football club in Malawi in terms of fans, league title winning and financial background. It was formerly known as Bata Bullets then Total Big Bullets and in 2003, the then Malawi’s President Bakili Muluzi adopted the team and renamed it Bakili Bullets.

Bullets first reached the Caf Champions’ League Group Stages in 2004 which was one of their best season since Muluzi take over.

Gor Mahia head coach earlier revealed that Allan Wanga was among the players he wanted the Kenyan champions to sign ahead of the new season.

“I asked my club to go for Wanga. He also wanted to come but I was told he is tied to Kakamega on and off the field. I first held talks with him, then asked my chairman to speed up the transfer but it could not work because he is tied to the Governor in Kakamega.” said Kerr
