Why is it that most boxers end up being mentally ill? Is their something they are not doing right? or rather they are not playing the game with the necessary boxing equipment’s needed?
Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has come to the rescue of another mentally ill Boxer Suleiman Bilali who is residing in Muthurwa.
Bilali a Kenyan light flyweight boxer has been suffering from mental illness for quite some time after getting a head injury, a condition that has subjected him to abject poverty.
Sonko sent the Nairobi Sports Committee to Bilali’s home in Muthurwa where they are set to take him to Nairobi West Hospital for rehabilitation.
Bilali who is also a former GSU officer stated that he was later run over by a matatu, an incident that saw his employer dismiss him from service.
“The memory loss made me unable to discharge my duties effectively so the boss gave me thirty days off to seek medication,” Bilali once told Ghetto Radio.
The dismissal subjected to life in abject poverty and surviving on handouts.
Bilali has represented Kenya in numerous international competitions.
In 2000 Bilali fought at the Summer Olympics, where he was edged out by Spain’s eventual runner-up Rafael Lozano 10:11 in the quarterfinal.
Bilali’s rescue comes just days after Governor Mike Sonko through the Nairobi Sports Committee airlifted ailing boxing champion Conjestina Achieng to Nairobi for treatment.
An action, that was a culmination of efforts by other celebrities including gospel singer Daddy Owen who had contacted the comedian on the sad state of the former boxing legend who put boxing on the map on her heydays before mental issues took a toll on her.
