Arsenal defended despite red card

Matteo Guendouzi plays with the spirit that I want to see him do, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has defended the midfielder.

The 19-year old was red carded after receiving two yellow cards in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup. Emery has lept into his defence saying the youngster has shown competitiveness and spirit that is important for the team.

“He’s playing well, and he’s playing with one thing that is very important, with spirit and competitiveness. I don’t know if it’s experience. I think he’s playing with the spirit that I want. Today and in every match. We spoke in the dressing room at half-time that it was very important with control, but I don’t think he lost control in this action. He’s playing the way the action is demanding. And the red card is one circumstance in the game.” Emery said.

With the Frenchman set to miss the next crucial league match, the tactician is not worried by Guendouzi’s sideline adding that he has enough pool and depth to make his selections from.

“We have a lot of players who are looking forward to playing and help us. And I’m going to prepare with other players and thinking we can have the performance for a big match on Saturday,” he concluded.

Liverpool remains unbeaten in the league thus far and their meeting with a rejuvenated London side will be a real test for their title race credentials.
