KNEC Boss Prof. Magoha Publicly Blasts Head teacher for Laxity during KCPE Examinations

The Kenya National Examinations Council chairman Prof. George Magoha was yesterday upset with a head teacher that arrived for exam materials late.

In an exclusive video seen by us, the KNEC boss apparently lost his temper as a head teacher showed up late for the collection of KCPE exams materials.

Under the set guidelines, the examination materials should be picked from the storage centers by 6 am daily for the entire examinations period.

After picking the exam materials, they are transported to the examination centers under close supervision of the police.

The exam body had directed principals to keep exam papers and materials in classrooms where candidates can see them in a new move to curb cheating. The body added that exam materials should be taken directly to the classrooms under the watchful eye of the Kenya police.

Principals were previously allowed to keep the papers in a safe location within their schools. Students will sit two exam papers in a day. The new directive requires both papers taken to the classroom.

“Ensure the materials for the second exam remain on the same table in full view of the candidates while the exam for the first session is in progress,” a Knec circular reads.

Knec had also directed that soon after the exams are completed, papers are to be returned to the container storage facilities immediately.

“Soon after the exams are completed, we expect the papers to be returned to the containers within the shortest time possible,” said Knec chairman George Magoha.

If there’s any delay in doing so, the center manager and supervisor will be required to give an explanation”.

KNEC had earlier okayed the presence of mobile phones in Examination centers during the exam period. The exam body revealed that principals will be allowed to have their mobile phones within the school premises during this year’s examinations.

The KCPE examinations kicked off yesterday all over the country under close supervision from the ministry of education and that of Interior with the candidates sitting for maths, English and composition.

Today, President Kenyatta was leading a government delegation that is currently touring various examination centers across the country. He visited Uhuru gardens primary and had a small chat with the candidates before they embarked on their first paper today.

President  Kenyatta, while addressing them assured all KCPE candidates of full transition to secondary schools.

Elsewhere, A 15-year-old girl from Kericho County on Tuesday gave birth shortly before beginning her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination and named her newborn baby after Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.

Sarah Nekesa, a pupil at St. Patrick’s Primary school on the outskirts of Kericho town, will now sit her examination at Kericho Nursing Home where she was rushed after going into labour on Monday night.

Speaking to the press from her hospital bed, Nekesa exuded confidence that she will still perform well in the examination and proceed to secondary school.

She said she did not imagine that her due date would come so early since health personnel at her previous clinic had informed her that she was due on November 15.
