After being unfancied by Jose Mourinho last term, Martial has hit a purple patch for Manchester United this campaign, scoring four goals in his last three Premier League outings.
Although Martial looks to have turned a corner, he has struggled for consistency during his spell to date at Old Trafford.
That in part has been down to Mourinho playing him out of position, utilising him more on the wing as opposed to a more central striking berth.
Whereas Hazard and Mane have become big-game players for Chelsea and Liverpool respectively, Martial hasn’t quite reached the same levels.Yet.
And Neville has conceded that Martial’s work-rate is nowhere near as impressive as that of Hazard and Mane.
When analysing Martial’s performances for United, Neville said: “What I started to do was look a bit deeper into the stats of Martial and I got the shock of my like.
“When you look at the stats equivalent to a full season of Martial he’s actually matching the likes of Sadio Mane and Eden Hazard in terms of minutes played, goals and assists, and that’s incredible.
“Then you say to yourself what am I watching? It confuses me even more because they are incredible stats.
“I looked at his physical stats against the players on the list and again I got the shock of my life.
“I got to the point where I thought that’s why Deschamps, Mourinho and others don’t fancy him.
“When you look at the players in and around, as we did before, Mane nearly runs 2km more than Martial.
“Hazard, who gets accused of not working hard, is 1.5km more than Martial.
“We’re not talking about defending or anything like that, Martial is well down on his physical stuff.”
Meanwhile, Nemanja Matic reckons Martial is unaware of his ability.
He said: “He needs more confidence. He is still young and I think, if he continues to score in the next game, he will get that.
“If he reaches his top level, he can be one of the best players in the league for sure.
“Sometimes I don’t think he understands how good he is.
“He has everything that a Manchester United football player needs.
“If I had his ability with the ball and I was as quick as him, then I wouldn’t pass to anyone and I would score every game!”
