Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Manchester United will not make a move to re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the January transfer window.
The Swede has led LA Galaxy to the brink of the play-offs – scoring 22 goals in 26 appearances – with a win needed from their final match to secure a place in the end of season matches.
There has been speculation that United could bring Ibrahimovic back on a short-term loan once the play-offs are over.However, when Mourinho was questioned in his Friday press conference over whether Ibrahimovic could return, he replied: “No. No.”
Ibrahimovic joked on Thursday that West Ham “could not afford” him as he discussed a Premier League return with James Corden.
Mourinho has a match to prepare for on Sunday against Everton as United look to carry on their decent Premier League form with four points from two matches against Newcastle United and Chelsea.
He will come up against fellow Portuguese, Marco Silva, when they host the Toffees at Old Trafford and Mourinho has discussed his relationship with the former Hull City and Watford manager.
“Good friends,” Mourinho added. “You know Marco now, I understand the questions when he was coming from Olympiakos, I think. But now I don’t understand the questions. He’s at his third club in the country, third season in the Premier League, you all know Marco.
“The only thing I want to say is that I have a very good relation with him, yes we are good friends, in football is difficult to feed that relation between managers because our life is not an easy one and is not like we can have conversations together every day or every week.
“But he’s a good boy, I have a very good relation with him, and I know and I feel he has the same kind of feelings towards me.”
