Kenyans on twitter have today opened up and had a talk on matters depression. This seems to have been a planned discussion by loyal tweeps to create awareness and in turn people got a platform to share their struggles, how they deal with depression and where one can get help.
Depression can occur in both men & women of any age. Depression affects people across all ethnic groups & socioeconomic backgrounds.
Although people suffering from depression rarely know about this condition, it is advisable to seek medical assistance in order to get the necessary treatment.
Kenyans outlined a number of reasons as to why some of the youth go through depression.
1. Helb Loans
A section of Kenyans have complained about the HELB loans that become so difficult to pay up once they are out of school yet remain unemployed for a long time.
The unemployment rate in the country is still alarming and a large section of youth end up in frustrations when they keep getting HELB notifications yet they are clueless on how they will manage to settle the debts.

2. Social Media
Some Kenyans have the habit of trolling others online and some end up getting depressed after they are blasted online.
One Kenyan mentioned that although this move to speak about depression is educative and helpful, social media users are the same people who end up shaming and sharing hurtful messages.

3. Corruption
One describe corruption as the mother of all causes of corruption. If this is true then Kenyan youth are living during hard times.
It all goes back to the basics. To what is seemingly the functional unit of our establishment-corruption. Corruption at every level of society is the mother of all causes of depression. Let’s deal with the elephant in the hse b4 everything else. #KOTLoyalsAgainstDepression
