How safe is your child? expired diapers worth millions nabbed in Mlolongo

Police in Nairobi  seized close to 5000 bales of counterfeit and expired diapers in Eens Go-down and  Kapa in Mlolongo after they raided the go down following  a tip off from members of the public.

The Ezee pampers brand packaged in bails comprising of small, medium and large pampers which had already been repackaged  ready for sale  expired on February this year and the dates had been erased.

According to the police, the owner of the diapers had hired workers to stick fake Kenya Bureau of Standards (KBS) stamps on the diapers.

The Ezee branded diapers from China which had been distributed for some time by the criminals, had expired in February 2018. They were estimated to weigh 4 tonnes and were worth an estimate of KSh 30 million .

The workers had also erased expiry dates on the diapers, most of which had lasted beyond their sell-by dates.

The consignment was later taken back to the Director Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Nairobi under tight security.

Six suspects were arrested during the operation and they will be arraigned in court.
