Homabay County On the Spot Again As Speaker’s Mace Goes Missing

House business at the Homabay County Assembly came to a standstill for the better part of Wednesday after the symbol of authority; the mace went missing.

Operations of the House were paralysed for the better part of the day as Members of the Homa Bay County Assembly demanded answers.

The symbol of authority is alleged to have been stolen by unknown people on Tuesday night.

Confirming the incident, temporary Speaker Evans Marieba noted that the disappearance of the symbol of authority has since been reported at the Homabay Police Station.

The Assembly was forced to resort to an old defunct mace that was used by the previous County Government to run House business for the day.

During the house proceedings, Kabondo West MCA Geoffrey Anyango raised questions demanding answers on how the mace was stolen from the office of the speaker which is highly secured.

Mr. Anyango and a section of MCAs said they had learned of the incident in the morning after chief Sergeant at Arms confirmed it was missing.

This comes only a day after chaos erupted in the house, after a section of the members accused house Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo of bias.

The group alleged that Ayoo had changed a list of new house leaders, in a situation that culminated in violence and disorder.

Outgoing Majority Leader Richard Ogindo who was last month ousted, and whose place is to be taken by Kanyadoto MCA Walter Muok led his allies in snubbing the sitting.

Members of the County Assembly were expected to debate about the issue in the afternoon session.
