Kenyans on twitter are not at ease after President Uhuru Kenyatta refused to read his formal speech on Tuesday at Strathmore University during the 2018 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Conference.
The President who stood to address the conference expressed his shame and disappointment in his government after he realised that the government had until now not honored its promise to Gikomba fire victims.
The fire that broke out in June this year at the largest Nairobi market gutted business outlets and stalls, costing several lives.
An attempt by the victims to bring up other stalls faced an objection from the government which promised that it was going to bring up new stalls for them.
Guilty struck President Kenyatta who stood to address the conference, admitting that it was so shameful to be read, and had caused him embarrassment.
“I will not read my speech because it is shameful for the government. I’m embarrassed to stand here in front of you people to be reminded of what we should have done many years ago,” Mr Kenyatta said.
However, the Presidents refusal to read the speech has stirred the internet with many accusing him of failure.
Led by Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi who also represented President Kenyatta in the 2017 elections petition filed by his opponent Raila Odinga, Kenyans have seen failure in the president.
Lawyer Ahmednasir says Uhuru’s remarks were an expression of courage under failure.
“I will not read my speech because it is shameful for the government. “I’m embarrassed to stand here in front of you people to be reminded of what we should have done many years ago,” Mr Kenyatta said. This is courage under “failure”….@WehliyeMohamed @DonaldBKipkorir

Others accused Mr President of Laziness, ineptitude & reluctance as well as letting down those who really loved him, with some citing that he was only going to leave a pure legacy of Public Relations stunts.

Lazy officers under Uhuru’s presidency have perfected the art of concealing their laziness in beautiful speeches for the president to read, today’s session with small scale traders ‘peeled back’ the ugly mask. They should be fired!
