Be warned! Monica Kimani’s murder case could land you in trouble too

Justice James Wakiaga has warned the media against reporting what has not  been verified in court in the ongoing case over the murder of Monica Kimani.

The judge issued the warning on Wednesday when he set the date for a bail hearing for the two suspects accused of killing Ms Kimani – Ms Jacque Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu.

“My attitude towards these people (media) is negative!…Those statements that you keep on telling us about this case, stop writing them from now,” he said.

“I am an old-school judge… if I am influenced before a case, I get upset.”

Wakiaga said anybody who shall give information “will find it very difficult” now that he has taken over the matter.

“…from now that I am taking this matter…. let us try and be kind to all of us…the information you put out there will put me in difficult position if I acquit these guys,” he said.

The couple will spend another week in remand after Justice Wakiaga set their bail hearing for next week.

Justice Wakiaga directed the probation office to file a pre-bail report in court ahead of the hearing on October 24.The report from social workers will inform the judge’s decision when deciding whether to grant them bail.

However, it is the prosecution that has to convince the court that there are compelling reasons to deny the murder suspects their freedom.
